Poker Probabilities - Calculated

Post watching Casino Royale, again got the urge of completing Poker Chapter.

Calculated all the probabilities taking assistance from wikipedia, in some cases.

I believe the core strategy in game should be core game and probabilities. And then you should take assistance from competitors expressions.

So primarily it has to be core game.

And Core game consists of three parts, 2-Card start, then prob. of sequences in 5 card game and finally prob. of combination of 2+5, where u know u r initial hand.

StartUp Saturday in Mumbai - 09Apt11

Attended first StartUp Saturday in Mumbai yesterday. Decent speakers I would say.

Things shared at Startup

1. Marketing activities taken by GroupBuying Site
a) Sold cinema tickets at Rs 12/ticket. Out of pocket expenses and it created the hype. Then got lucky in getting tickets for a match where Tenduler and Gambhir were playing.

U have to think differently. Paying out of pocket initally to create the hype.

2. Presentation from Aji was good
Asked to checkout sites like Knowem.com and rodinhood.com.
Told new concepts like
a) Remarketing google ads.
b) Brand and Industry Marketing
c) Google Alert and Affilate Marketing
d) Startupsaturdaygenie and slidesahre

Overall it was nice experience.

Prepared my GM for Chairman of UCIL

I had an exciting week. My boss had to give an interview for UCIL and he asked me to prepare a roadmap for the company.

I get-to-understand a company from it's financial statment. So first of all checked out last 10 years balance sheet/P&L statment.

ROA and ROE for the company was around 3 to 4%, I knew a lot can be done in the company. I did 2-3 hours of analysis and my GM called me for update.

We discussed and came up on a conclusion that our roadmap would not be finance driven(my approach) but sustainability driven. So I started working and came up with roadmap1 which had three parameters i.e. Social, Environmental and Financial parameter.

I read about Industry and International Competitors and came up with things that competitors have been doing for Social, environmental paramters.

Then I compared the company on financial parameters vis-a-vis management effeciency such as
ROE/ROA measure of Mangement
PAT/Sales and Sales/Asset measure of Operation
Debt/Credit Cycle measure of Operations
Debt/Equity and Asset/Equity measure of Finance

And on all the parameters the company came up weak. So we had a good roadmap. Also I talked to a person in UCIL who gave inputs on operational inefficiency.

Thus we had good stuff about the company. Now only thing required was future path for the company.

So we came up with a thrre prong strategy for the company.
1. Diversify vertically (no horizontal diversification as there was good potential)
2. Explore Mines
3. Make Company Financialy/Operational sustainable.

And then we drilled down in each of the topics. My GM went for the interview and secured 2nd rand for being Chairman. I was happy that my inputs were successful.

Question that were asked to him
1. About himself highly qualified.
2. Similarity between UCIL and SAIL business planning.
3. Any Mining experience?
4. Intellectual - Aspiration vis-a-vis constraint
5. What would he bring to table?
6. Who should be preffered a person from Urnanium Industry or other Industry.

I think for "what would he bring to table" he should have given the roadmap and then said a combination of Finance + operation acumen along with having nag for innovation would be on table if he was chairman.

And reply to 6th question would have decided his 1/2nd position. His answer should have been candidate should be good on finance+business+operation and should be innovative. I the person from industry has good finance+business acumen then he should be a good candidate.

And if the person from other industry is good then operation would not be a problem for him.

My first interview for MD@Maxx Mobile

I got a call from Sangram (my friend) on last Sunday, and he asked “what was my plan for next year”. I told him I wanted to head some unit and turnaround it.

He asked me to come and visit a mobile manufacturing unit at Roorkee where he was working and see if its value for both of us. On Tuesday I was there at the factory.

I analyzed the factory for a week’s time. And on friday my friend saw my notes where I had written observation about the Unit. He said I think u can create a lot of value addition for the company. He said we are ready to meet one of the directors of the company at Baddi.

We left in night for Chd and in the morning at 10 we were there at the factory of director for my recruitment as Plant head. He started taking my interview. And I gave him some gyaan on things I can do, but he was’t convinced fully. So he said give me four days time and I should be in a good position to answer.

Then Sangram said why don’t we give him an assignment and the director can check the potential hilself. Director agreed and asked me to visit his factory which he was running for last 15 years and give inputs within an hour’s time period.

I had no clue but took it as a challenge because I had never taken up such assignment earlier. 200 ppl were working in the factory. I decided to talk to 2 senior most guys, understand the process before moving forward. After discussion I started visiting the factory.

While I was visiting I got a call that we have to leave in 5 mins, so rap up things and will have discussion in the car on the journey back to Chandigarh.
I had to leave things in the mid and we started for Chandigarh.

Director asked about my observation. I told him there was a big production planning program. He said that is not a problem. I had data with me. I told him u have a capacity of 5000 sheets/hour and in total 1 lakh/day(20 hr running time). He said we have four machines. I told him yes “one six color, two four color and one double color”, he said yes in amazment. I said taking that total capacity comes to 4 lakh/day. And u have different orders on difft days. I took out the print out and said for instance on 15th Jan u have capacity of 20 lakh which can’t be completed. If completed other orders would remain. He agreed and said that’s a pain point. Also that last 3 days production was only 25% of full capacity.

Then I started to discuss abt few other things like procurement related issues.

When the discussion was over, director said I had asked you to give me 4 days for my decision. He said that means you were joining the company on 1st Feb. He said I recruit you today. Join from 26th, spend 4 days in my company at Baddi and then join the unit at Roorkee. I was happy that I was good at my task.

I told him I wanted to join the Roorkee Unit first and then may be I could come to his unit. He said he had no problem in that. And then we stopped where another car was waiting for the director. And I left for my home. Overall had a fine experience.
