My first interview for MD@Maxx Mobile

I got a call from Sangram (my friend) on last Sunday, and he asked “what was my plan for next year”. I told him I wanted to head some unit and turnaround it.

He asked me to come and visit a mobile manufacturing unit at Roorkee where he was working and see if its value for both of us. On Tuesday I was there at the factory.

I analyzed the factory for a week’s time. And on friday my friend saw my notes where I had written observation about the Unit. He said I think u can create a lot of value addition for the company. He said we are ready to meet one of the directors of the company at Baddi.

We left in night for Chd and in the morning at 10 we were there at the factory of director for my recruitment as Plant head. He started taking my interview. And I gave him some gyaan on things I can do, but he was’t convinced fully. So he said give me four days time and I should be in a good position to answer.

Then Sangram said why don’t we give him an assignment and the director can check the potential hilself. Director agreed and asked me to visit his factory which he was running for last 15 years and give inputs within an hour’s time period.

I had no clue but took it as a challenge because I had never taken up such assignment earlier. 200 ppl were working in the factory. I decided to talk to 2 senior most guys, understand the process before moving forward. After discussion I started visiting the factory.

While I was visiting I got a call that we have to leave in 5 mins, so rap up things and will have discussion in the car on the journey back to Chandigarh.
I had to leave things in the mid and we started for Chandigarh.

Director asked about my observation. I told him there was a big production planning program. He said that is not a problem. I had data with me. I told him u have a capacity of 5000 sheets/hour and in total 1 lakh/day(20 hr running time). He said we have four machines. I told him yes “one six color, two four color and one double color”, he said yes in amazment. I said taking that total capacity comes to 4 lakh/day. And u have different orders on difft days. I took out the print out and said for instance on 15th Jan u have capacity of 20 lakh which can’t be completed. If completed other orders would remain. He agreed and said that’s a pain point. Also that last 3 days production was only 25% of full capacity.

Then I started to discuss abt few other things like procurement related issues.

When the discussion was over, director said I had asked you to give me 4 days for my decision. He said that means you were joining the company on 1st Feb. He said I recruit you today. Join from 26th, spend 4 days in my company at Baddi and then join the unit at Roorkee. I was happy that I was good at my task.

I told him I wanted to join the Roorkee Unit first and then may be I could come to his unit. He said he had no problem in that. And then we stopped where another car was waiting for the director. And I left for my home. Overall had a fine experience.
