Reached Boston at 1PM. Person with whom I had to stay called me up and said he has an emergency so better find something to do :) He was a friend of friend of friend :) So could't say much.

Went straight to Microsoft campus and sat for technical session on Mobile apps. No prior exp of Mobile apps everything went Overhead^Overhead. There was a guy sittin next to me his name was Glen.

6PM started the pitch session. I also pitched just because I had to :) N then teams were formed. I attached myself to the #thehitchery team, because I had never thought that one day I would be working on an idea for Mobile Apps that has something to do with gaming :) an online-offline game. N Iw anted to work with Glen. Team size was 11, one of the largest teams. Had discussion till 11 n then went to this friend of friend's place. Got a maggi n sofa for dozzin off :)

Got up at 8 n reached venue at 9:30 types. Started working on idea. Everyone was told of his/her responsibility. I was part of BD team. In the noon mentors came n rapped the BD team on the engagement model of Hitchery. I was asked by Glen the idea innovator to think on the answer. I started searching competitor application for an answer. N went back home pondering at 11 in night.

In the morning discussion was going on, when the theme really clicked me. I proposed various themes that could be added to #thehitchery like having mazes, game promotion by Business's, celebrity hitchery's and hitchery's for social cause.

N then I saw that Glen had got the answer that our idea can be successful. Met few other ppl n discussed their ideas.

I get started at 9 in the morning. Went straight to Harvard. Liked it. Felt the rivalry between Harvard-Yale because of the due Football match that night. Got T-Shirt for Smur n me.

Left for South Station to meet this guy. He comes out to be one of the selected Mass Challenge teams n he starts tellin him his experienc n abt his office which is on 14th floor full of Mass Challenge teams. I am excited to go to his buidling so decide to skip the 2 O Clock bus.

I go to his office n I see 4 ppl out of my team working on the animation in his office. That was such a coincidence that all of us are amazed.

I leave the place n move to Station. Take 4 O Clock bus finally :) Reach New York at 8 PM n meet my cousin there.

Have a party with him for an hour n now heading to Toronto.

Overall Boston Trip was awesome. The best experience of trip. Kudos to my bro who asked me to go n Sabby who managed the trip. This fucker booked all the tickets on his account. U don't have those friends in todays world.

Started from Toronto 6 in the morning, that was surprise for me. Had some confusion of roads even after GPS, but got it straight after we took 90 E and took 390 straight to New York. Reached New York 5 in the evening. Met everyone and went for a club party with the bride/bridegroom at Empire State. Came back at 6 in the morning.

Went to Time Square with Masi/Masad n cousins. Angel was the guide. Did lot of tourist activities. Checked out the first MacD store, Central park, tanga ride and saw rickshaw.

Checked out Tea Brands those were gud.

Masi/Masad left for Toronto n I left with Sabby. Went to Smagam with him, then went to Simpson Maul. Maul was fine.

Went with Sabby to a store n saw products such as chess BP, tie rope, 3 knot cage, kheper. Thats somethin u never find in India

Went to Jija Ji in the evening, meetin him was gud, discussed some ideas with him, n he offered we could together start somethin after discussion. Thats always a gud feel.

Talked to him abt lase Product, he told to see Bosley, it has given me good clarification on wht I wanted to seek.

Talked to him abt "As u see", thats a gud concept, can think of somethin between Cosco and "As u see", nice mixture n can come up with somethin innovative. Lets see.

Also went to Princeton University in the evening. One of the best campus I have seen. Ny campus that I found gud our K campus, really nice.

Went to World Trade Centre. Sat at the sea-shore, was awesome weather, specially the music they played.

Went to New York University, checked out Mammoun the best fala-fal place in New York. N played games like bear-pong and fuss ball.

Went to battery park, went to Rivoldi the best Oven baked pizza. Went to Atlantic City. My first official Casino, had gud time at Black Jack/Poker.

Went for Smagam. Saw Sam's Club and BJ. All the same concepts. In the evening went for halloween prade.

Went to Chesea Pier, played Golf at a range near shore. Nice view and game.

Went to Century Place. One of the best clothin place in New York acc to Magazine.

Requiem for a dream

Hearing the music of "Requiem for a dream".

Its a totally different feel. Its like hating someone and at the same time loving him/her. Its amazing how these ppl came up with this music. How they decide on a theme and make a music suited to the theme.

But this is surely a master piece.

Went n met Angel, Amit n his friends, Aman n Ricky, the party was good.

Strange Fact - But what I felt strange was got to know that multiplexes don't have seating nos here, ppl queue up n rush to grab seats, lol, that was something that even Indian Cinema changed a long time back. It seemed India is more advanced than Canada. Would like to meet a Multiplex owner in Canada and ask the reason.

Retail Future of India - There is nothing as such unorganized retail here in Canada. I don't see small stores that u find in India. There r only big stores like Wall Mart, Future Electronics that specializes in their segment. It seems India would be one day on the same track, but would like to explore that did Canada ever have small stores or how Retail evolved in Canada.

Had a good discussion with my Masad today. Talking to ppl is really good. U get to know lot many things.

Sick Unit is a gud option. U r finance req. can be cut short, instead of new company take a sick company, instead of taking over sick company, make a good deal, where u can try out the venture for next 6 months without taking over the company.

Went with Masad to his new showroom today, had a gud time. He has done a gud deal. Property is worth 6M, he is getting for 4.5 Million, Income is worth 6 l/year, he has taken private mortgage n given first installment-2M. 2M costs 1 L/Year(Int) + 2L/year(P). Another 1 Million would complete the income. And for 1.5 M he would have his clinic or additional income from store.

This was something like comparison between Sick and running company i.e. a property in downtown vis-a-vis property here. Tomm going to his medical centre.

Things to do in Canada

Also, went to a maul where found two things interesting. One the customized beer made thing and another customized t-shirt. Need to talk to them.

And explore mini-golf courses, waste managment, kumon etc

Went with Masad to his Medical Centre today. That works really well. Managed by Ontario Government. Then met Aman on the way n went to Qiznos. That was a gud concept. Went to UPS store, a store for all business purposes, not value store. N then played with Aman in the evening on play station.

Went with Masad to Costcho Retail Outlet. Nice concept worth exploring. They make members for retail and make wholsale outlets for ppl to come and shop.

Went to masi's friend for a party. All the uncle's were playing cards "teen patti" in Poker Nation.

Went to club after that with Aman n other cousins. The club was awesome, have't seen a club like that in India.

Went with masi to FairView Maul. Checked out the maul, found the juice bar concept. Also, shopped for Moeshu baby. Went with Aman in the evening to "Glow in the dark", a maul concept of the same is ready for use idea for Ambienace Maul.

Too busy: June-Aug

Oh wrote a blog after a long time, I did't know after Chairman retired I got even more busy that I could't even write a blog here, bull shit, was just wasting my time in these three months.

Blogging is very useful in this sense you get to know/review u r time. Optimistic abt utilizing my time in next 2-3 months.

I have started doing one good thing, I have started attending start-up saturdays. Those r fun days, u get to hear entrepreneurs, people pitching and evaluating their ideas.

Met Mr Vinay from GVK, awesome person, who can give u simple electronic solution to any common problem.

Would update from North America now.

Lunch with Chairman Sir on 30th May, 2010

Chairman Sir took us to lunch in IIC on 30th May 2010, before leaving the office.

It was an awesome day. Wanted to hear lot many things from Sir and got the chance. He said in the starting “Jain u r a smart boy, but I couldn’t give u enough time”; I said I learnt a lot under his leadership. He said that he was just being frank.

Everyone was quite and only Chairman Sir was speaking. No one had anything to share, it was slightly weird.

I had loads of things to ask and say but wasn’t speaking may be out of utter respect. I was looking at Chairman Sir with a smile; he knew what was going through my mind, n he asked me “Yes Jain”.

I asked him Sir what are your hobbies, he smiled n said ”I don’t have many hobbies but I like reading, going for a walk n listening music”.

Then I asked him “Sir u r our role model, how do u maintain personal/professional life at such a high stature”.

He started laughing n said, for this I might not be your role model.

He said incase your work is demanding, you can devote more time to Office at the cost of family time. But make sure you don’t spill office work at home. Family would understand if you can’t give them time, but whatever few mins you give, should be relaxed and should be 100% for the family.

He also said normally ppl are good. Or have potential for becoming good. Work with the ppl who are good, transform thos ppl who have the potential for becoming good.
And there is set of people who won’t improve, remove that chunk of ppl, don’t try to improve them.

He said whatever articles you gave I have saved them and kept it at home. Chairman Sir had made my day; I couldn’t get an honor more than that.

Then we gave him a farewell gift, he said “Singhal, (Corp Affair head) u know wht type of person I am, still, u shouldn’t have done this, I am in embarrassing situation, neither can I refuse nor can I accept, instead of this u should have given me a letter, I would have framed it”. And then we moved for office, lunch was done.

In office I went to him and gave the letter that I had written, he read the letter and said thanks. His PS was there he asked him again where is the bunch of articles which Jain used to give; PS said I have sent it to your home. He said I didn’t find it, PS said it’s there. He said OK. It was a great feeling that those articles meant something for him.

Then finally he said whatever ideas you have in mind keep implementing, don’t worry abt the circumstances, keep moving forward and also keep away from cynics. These are the Golden words, and I’ll always remember them Sir.

2010 thoughts - One Liners

Nature is so mysterious, when people are young, their vision is limited by the exposure and the eyesight problem they have is Myopia i.e. far away objects appear blurred, when people grow old they tend to have vision but miss-out the minute details, and the eyesight problem that old people have is Hyperopia i.e. difficulty in focusing on near objects.

Budget experience with Sir

Went to FICCI with Sir where it was flooded with all news channel. The pressure was their to give the updated information on Budget while it was being announced.

More then that presure was their to keep up to the expectations of Sir. Co-ordinated with Office Team and gave points, which were also used by Sir.

Also, got scolding from Sir on one point. I should have verified that point but forwarded it as it had to be done fast.

Learnings
1. Do what you are thinking for prepration. Be 1000% prepared, 100% is not enough at this level.
2. The only way to prepare at this level is prepared for the unprepared and that too in advance.
3. Always take the points carefully, even if its last minute. Develop that skill. Sir has amazing skill in that aspect.
